Board Meeting Minutes
January 18, 2005

Those in attendance: Joan Holmes, Linda Paine, Susan White, Vikki
Broer, Martha Rogers, Maggy Woodcock, Anne Neville, Kate Stenson, Ruth
Eppig, Jane Pinkas, Binney Foutes, Debbie Latson, Nancy Kaufman, Mary
Susan Lyon, Candy Clancy.
The meeting was called to order at 9:25 a.m. by Vikki Broer. Vikki
thanked Candy Clancy for hosting the meeting.
A MOTION was made to approve the minutes from last month, and they
were APPROVED.
Announcements:
Vikki passed around the Smith College Alumni magazine which featured
SLGC member Clara Taplin Rankin and her garden.
CBG Library Tea: Vikki encouraged members to attend on January 30th.
GCA Endowment Campaign: SLGC members are encouraged to make
individual donations. A MOTION was made for the club to donate up to
$250, the motion was APPROVED.
CBG Flower Show participation: Dotty Elliott needs volunteers to
bring garden samples and volunteers for the herbaceous border (organize, design
and install).
Ruth Eppig reminded us that the CBG’s 75th anniversary is
in May and that Jenny Jones’ book about CBG will be available at the Library Tea.
GCA: Martha Rogers encouraged members to submit entrees into the
photo show May 6 through June 5th. Martha and Laurie Jacobs are consultants
for all classes.
Conservation:
Jane Ellison is going to the National Affairs and Legislation
committee meeting in February.
Martha Rogers passed around recycling bags for ink cartridges. SLGC
will receive .50 - $1.00 for ink and $15 for laser jet cartridges. Bags
will be available at meetings.
Founders Fund:
Ballots will be available for voting at the February 22nd
meeting at Jane Pinkas’ house.
Horticulture
Joan Holmes reported that 20 people attend the Sunnybrook Nursery
workshop last month. Kathleen Van Devere of Zone X (Akron Garden Club)
is having a workshop in Wooster on February 7th on grafting.
Program
Jan. 25th meeting at the Intown Clu, Chuck Gleaves of
Kingwood Center is the speaker.
Candy Clancy reported we still need a home for the Annual Meeting on
June 28th. Vikki Broer will call the Shoreby Club as a
backup.
Next year the joint meeting (SLGC/GCC) on October 25th will feature
Willima Cullina of the New England Wildflower Society and author of
three books.
Charitable Project
Donation envelopes will be available at all meetings. We have no
proposals as of yet.
Hospitality
Requests are being made for hostesses for 2005-2006.
Membership
March 31st is the deadline to propose a new member.
Website
The website is under construction. Old newsletters will be archived
on the website once it is up and running again.
Yearbook
Corrections/updates should be sent to Debbie Latson.
Treasurer
Susan White handed out an updated budget which included an accounting
bill of $1144.00
A MOTION was made to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m., & it was
APPROVED.
