Suggestions

Suggestions for ways to persuade and
educate yours and other elected representatives in government and people
in government agencies about conservations issues about which you are
concerned.
- Call early and often!
- Fax
- Visit the legislators
- Take or send them articles
- Have rallies (maybe in conjunction with a fair}
- Take your congressperson or their aid (not at
the same time) to lunch... at your club
- Write letters to the editor
- Have press conferences
- Create a telephone tree
- Join a coalition
- Identify interests of those with whom you talk
- Learn arguments of adversary... try to answer
- Ask opinion of legislators
- In letters, ask for a reply on their position
- Be sure to thank them for positive votes
- Follow up after meeting them and, if they
disagree, supply them with more and more information
- Informing your representative is also a way of
informing others who might be on the right committees dealing with
your issue.
- Locally look up permits
- Talk to agency in charge
- Check zoning regulations
