President's Letter January 2019

Ladies,

The holidays have almost passed, the cold has settled in, and it is time to start dreaming of spring gardens and the glorious blossoms of summer. In a few weeks, our mailboxes will start to fill with the seed, perennial, tree and shrub catalogs. It is always a pleasure to dream of additions to the garden, or to create fantasy gardens with exotic specimens.

At the end of January, we have a wonderful treat in store. Jenny Rose Carey, nationally known landscape designer and author, will speak to us about shade and perennial gardening. Please note: the VENUE for this January 22 meeting has CHANGED. We will now meet at The Tudor House on the campus of Gilmour Academy, 34001 Cedar Road, Gates Mills, OH.

Our Charitable Projects Chairs, Carol Provan and Sandy Holmes, have been hard at work. The deadline for submitting a project proposal is February 1. If you know of a worthy organization seeking to fund a suitable project, please let Sandy know about it. Checks to support those charitable projects should be submitted to Carol.

I have exciting news to share: Debbie Oliver, from our own Zone X and Cincinnati, will be the President of The Garden Club of America from 2021 to 2023. You will remember the wonderful floral design workshop which Debbie led last year for our January meeting. We all enjoyed her company, her expertise and sense of humor. I know you will welcome Debbie as GCA President. Hurray for Debbie!

Our year ahead promises to be a busy one. There will be interesting meetings, gardens to visit and a fun October Flower Show. I look forward to spending time with you as I hope you will join me on these wonderful adventures.
