Happy New Year! Winter, with its peaceful snow, has arrived. This is the time of year I love to watch the birds at the outdoor feeders. The cardinals, juncos, titmice and sparrows are entertaining to see as they vie for positions on the feeders. And, the hopeful squirrel lurking nearby for a few tidbits offers endless delight. The garden is busy with visitors!
Our committee chairpersons have also been busy planning a wonderful series of events for the coming year. January brought us Jenny Rose Carey. She is a nationally recognized designer and author who spoke about shade gardening. In February, we will enjoy a wonderful workshop in Breezewood Nursery’s greenhouse. It is sublime to experience the warmth and earthy smell of a warm greenhouse on a winter’s day.
There are also horticulture workshops on the horizon, and a fabulous flower show in October. We are planning a small photography show in conjunction with our guest speaker for the October joint membership meeting. Along the way, our own Karen Colini will share tips on planning a perennial garden and Sally Roman is busy planning exciting locations for Visiting Gardens.
Keep your eyes on the newsletter and your calendar handy as we announce the dates and times for all these wonderful programs. Meanwhile, pour yourself another cup of hot cocoa, drop a marshmallow in and enjoy the winter birds.
