Provisionals Get Ready for May Flower Show

On February 12, eight enthusiastic and obviously talented provisionals met for a “hats” workshop. This was in preparation for the provisional only class in our upcoming flower show! As you can see from the pictures, this is an amazing group! Our own Cathy Miller led them through mechanics and tricks of the trade.  We are looking forward to their final creations in May…what fun it will be!

Now Is The Time!!

Ladies, have you been thinking about how much one of your close friends would enjoy being a member of SLGC? Now is the time to get your provisional prospects organized, and let me know what you have in the works! Final submissions are due by April 1, 2017, but it always helps to know how many we might have… too small a class isn’t as much fun, so we want to have at least four new provisionals!

Reflections on the Provisional Year

Everyone reading this has been a provisional SLGC member at one time. As a soon to graduate provisional I offer a retrospective on what the current provisional experience looks like, with a focus on what new technologies have wrought, and a reflection on the power of GCA.

I imagine that many of the studies we provisionals have engaged in are time-honored and traditional: GCA scholarship, the charitable fund, garden history and design, and the panic inducing realization that a flower show class is not a course. Equally sacrosanct is participation in the holiday-time greens workshop with its orgy of evergreen scents, greens of every hue, and colorful ribbons. And then there are those activities that are most likely specific to Cleveland: the annual wreath creation for the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and participation in the Shaker Nature Center Plant sale.
