GCA's Response to the Need for Virtual Programming

With the shutting down of in-person monthly program meetings for every GCA garden club, the question of “what’s next” was on everyone’s mind.  The obvious answer is virtual programming. Our GCA has come through with flying colors, providing all club members with a vast array of virtual programming featuring world renowned speakers, GCA-sponsored original content, educational programs, and Zone X news. All can be accessed on the Members Home Page by clicking on the new Video and Publications feature.

One to note specifically is The GCA Program committee’s three-part web video series entitled IT’S YOURS: GCA PROGRAMS ON DEMAND which is exclusive to member clubs.  The first release on October 1, 2020 is “Revolutionary Gardeners; Gardening Wisdom from George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.”  Coming December 1, 2020 is “Farm, Flowers, Food, and Photography: How a 19th Century Estate and Organic Farm Expresses Itself in the 21st C.”

As the Covid period drags on into 2021, these videos will be a way of connecting with each other virtually, in pop-up mode or as formally organized zoom meetings. I personally loved the episode “English Gardens through a GCA Scholars Eye,”  found in the Scholars Showings category.
