Flower Show Volunteers

Martha Marsh and Robin Schachat

Dear Ladies of the SLGC, It is time to step up and be counted!

Many of you have already volunteered to help with our Flower Show, A Fantasy, which will take place the weekend following Labor Day. Some of you will be out of town, which we regret tremendously because we will miss your smiling faces and willing, helping hands. Yet among those who will not be here, a large number have nonetheless signed up to help with advance work. Thank you!

Advance work can include helping with Education Displays, entering Botanical Arts classes, assisting with printing and awards, and helping gather judges’ gifts. There is still room for you to help.

As for the majority of you who will be here in town, we assume you will all be entering Horticulture classes, There also remain openings for entries in some Floral Design classes (contact Susannah Doman), including the class designed for those who have never before entered a GCA show. You can do Floral Designs in teams if you are not secure enough to try on your own. Give it a shot!

We expect, however, that all SLGC Active Members will not only enter classes but will also help out one way or another with the production of the show. Our committees still need a few assistants. Would you like to spend a few hours with a friend, sitting a hostess slot at the Library? If so, please email Leigh Fabens or Lori Cohen.

Would you like to help tidy up on Sunday afternoon at the end of the show? Please volunteer with Amy Miller. Likewise, if you would like to help return equipment to storage on Monday morning, September 11. This might be as simple a job as making a list!

Would you like to help with our various Hospitality jobs, whether it be assisting to host a brunch, putting out name tags at Shaker Heights Country Club, or making sure there are snacks and drinks on hand for the workers at the Library? Please contact Annamarie Brancovsky.

Do you have time this summer to augment the efforts of Jane Ellison, Ann Cicarella, and Robin Schachat in Education displays? Please contact Robin Schachat. We can walk you through every step, and you will learn a lot!

If you are willing to print entry forms or Class Display Signage, please volunteer with Carol Provan and Sandy Holmes. It’s only a couple of hours’ time at the computer on a rainy afternoon.

There is always the thrill of filling green glass bottles with water on Thursday the 7th. Holly Scott and Suzy Hartford are fearless leaders for you in that area.

We can find a job for you somewhere; please don’t be shy! Flower Shows are an essential part of our club’s dedication to public education. We should all take part. Thank you all for doing your bit, however large or small!
