Happy New Year! As we stand on the threshold of more gardening adventures, it's time to sow the seeds of inspiration and nurture the collective passion that makes Shaker Lakes Garden Club thrive.

Reflections on the past year: Before we dive into our plans for the upcoming months, let's take a moment to appreciate the journey we've had in 2023. From the amazingly successful flower show, A Fantasy, to fun member’s meetings and horticulture and floral design workshops, to volunteer gardening and sprucing-up at Rid-All, we shared our love for gardening with each other and our communities. Many members played vital roles in cultivating a sense of camaraderie and green-thumb excellence!

Goals for 2024: Now, let's look forward to the possibilities that 2024 holds.

Our shared vision for the coming months is to:

  1. To expand our Gardening Knowledge - With workshops and member’s meetings, to delve into new gardening techniques, sustainable practices, and emerging trends

  2. To strengthen our connection with the community - to continue our volunteer efforts at Rid-All; to give generously to our Charitable Projects so that our club can support eco-friendly projects that showcase the beauty and importance of trees, plants and gardening, as well as scholarships for college students in support of their studies in horticulture

  3. To get Involved - This is a call to action for each member to actively participate, share ideas, and contribute to the growth of our club.

To that end, please complete the survey you will soon receive so that we can continue to be relevant and grow our club.

4. To review and update our policies - A draft of the proposed Code of Regulations and Standing Rules can be found here:

I hope you will take some time to review the proposed changes and ask any questions or suggest edits. These policies were last updated in 2012 and it is critical that they be reviewed and updated periodically. We will be voting on these changes at the June 25 Annual meeting.

5.  To begin planning for the 2025 Zone X Meeting- Shaker Lakes Garden Club is THE host for the Zone X meeting in Oct of 2025 and we’ll need a cadre of passionate members who will work to create an exciting and inspiring meeting for our GCA colleagues.

Together, we can make 2024 a year of flourishing blooms, new and lasting friendships, and shared accomplishments.

Wishing you all a year filled with greenery, growth, and gardening bliss!
