PBS Features Cleveland

On September 26, the PBS News Hour aired a story entitled "Can Urban Reforestation Help Lower Rising Temperatures?" The piece focused on Cleveland, and featured organizations whose tree plantings the SLGC has supported over the years. It is clear we need to continue this trajectory! You might enjoy watching the 9 minute video, which you can reach through this link.

Bonanza for Helen Schreiber!

Helen’s hen of the woods - 18.5 lbs! She ate some for the first time after the garden club talk. Go Helen!

In the past few years Sally Roman has tried to grow a variety of sedum in her birdbath without much luck.  This year was much better and she attributes that to three things.

*  The removal of a nearby evergreen allowing for better light in that area.

*  Bremec Nursery’s new greenhouse provided a much larger variety of plant materials to choose from.

*  Most importantly, she learned by watching Gardener’s World on Britbox of the importance of grit mixed into potting soil, with a formula of 50% potting soil and compost and 50% grit.
